Introduction

Cahoots is committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all our mahi. Our approach is guided by:

Pātuitanga (Partnership)

Cahoots commits to actively building relationships with mana whenua and Māori community leaders to ensure our work serves and empowers wāhine Māori and takatāpui. These relationships are approached with respect for their time and expertise, offering koha and engaging cultural advisors to guide our outreach responsibly.

Whakamarumaru (Protection)

Cahoots commits to the active protection of Māori culture and wellbeing. We will continually work with cultural representatives to ensure our workshop, teaching practices, and use of Te Reo Māori are culturally safe and appropriate, reflecting local tikanga. Our goal of being a space where Māori can thrive is held paramount. .

Ōritetanga (Participation and Equity)

Cahoots recognises the systemic inequities faced by Māori resulting from breaches of Te Tiriti. To address this, we continue to offer dedicated scholarships and prioritised class placements for wāhine Māori and takatāpui. This is a practical step of redress to ensure equitable access to the skills and opportunities we provide.
