Introduction

Cahoots Ltd is committed to maintaining the safety of all workers by providing training and supervision. Training provides confidence and safe working practices while supervision ensures that policies are maintained and adhered to, and that planning, recording and reporting needs are met.

Hazard identification, proper use of tools and equipment, and understanding how to maintain a safe working environment are empowering skills. Participating in this learning and practice is a requirement for all workers and we consider it to be inherently valuable in building a capable, resilient workplace.

Health and Safety Induction

All Cahoots Ltd workers must have a Health and Safety induction before being involved in off-site work. The induction includes reading and understanding this policy, providing a time for questions and securing any required training. The induction will be recorded in the induction register.

Tool Use and Working Practices

Nobody should use any tool until they have been trained to do so properly and safely. This includes performing a quick pre-start check to ensure the tool is in good working order before every use. Training provided by Cahoots Ltd will be recorded in the training register.

Working Safely On-Site

On-Site Safety Assessment (Take 5 for Safety)

Because every offsite job is a new environment, you are our most important eyes and ears on the ground. Before starting any task, you must conduct a quick risk assessment known as a "Take 5 for Safety." This simple but crucial process involves:

  1. Stop & Think: What is the task? What tools will I use?
  2. Look & Identify: What hazards are present? (e.g., trip hazards, overhead lines, poor lighting, animals, other people).
  3. Assess the Risk: How could I or someone else get hurt?
  4. Control the Hazards: What can I do to make this safer? (e.g., tidy the area, use a platform ladder instead of a step ladder, put up a sign).
  5. Proceed Safely: Continue with the job, staying alert to any changes.

Managing High-Risk Work

Certain tasks carry a higher level of risk and require specific procedures to be followed. These include, but are not limited to:
